Sports in Literature Sport functions as its own literature, complete with its own distinct language, characters, conflicts, themes, symbols, settings, and, of course, points of view. In this class we will be reading a wide variety of non-fiction sports writing, including articles, columns and essays, as well as a sports novel. In addition we will be viewing a variety of clips from TV journalism and film to examine and analyze how language and image are used to establish a story and discover how and why authors and directors use the world of sport to tell their stories.
